Pike County, Ohio Residents file Class Action Lawsuit Alleging Radioactive Contamination

Pike County, Ohio residents Ursula McGlone, Jason McGlone, Julia Dunham and others have filed a putative class action lawsuit alleging that Defendants Centrus Energy and others conducted uranium enrichment operations that contaminated properties located within a 7 mile radius of the operation site known as the Portsmouth Site. The Portsmouth Site is alleged to have been a 3,777 acre site upon which uranium enrichment operations were conducted. The Plaintiffs allege that as a result of the uranium enrichment operations at the Site, numerous properties, including the property upon which Zahn’s Corner Middle School is located, are contaminated with radioactive materials and other metals. The Plaintiffs claim that winds carried radioactive materials and other metals throughout the contaminated area in such concentrations that the radioactive materials and metals are deposited in the soil and buildings in and around Piketon, Ohio. The Plaintiffs’ Complaint seeks to have the case certified as a class action that would include (1) All property owners within a 7-mile radius of the Portsmouth Site or other geographic designation as supported by future scientific evidence; (2) All residents and former residents with more than one year of residence within a 7-mile radius of the Portsmouth Site or other geographic designation as supported by future scientific evidence; and (3) All current and former students at Zahn’s Corner Middle School from 1993 to present as well as their parents.
